Microsoft BlackBerry merger

This is sheer speculation.  Or wishful thinking. But what if Microsoft just bought BlackBerry?  I know they got their fingers burned with the acquisition and write down of the Nokia acquisition. But.

BlackBerry is pivoting away from hardware and going back to their core in security and services. And QNX has a 50% market share right now. Microsoft's auto infotainment system has been one of the things that has dragged down Ford's initial owner satisfaction surveys for years now. (But Microsoft's attorneys get an A+ for writing contracts as strong as an iron ball and chain that made Ford incapable of escape.)

So as Microsoft pivots toward their "Microsoft on everything" strategy, but still hedging with their increasingly popular Surface line for professional users...why not bolt on BlackBerry's brand of security? This would also give them access to the QNX headstart in automobiles. That's a twofer deal.

At 7 something a share × 521 million outstanding shares, that means BlackBerry might be worth around 3.7 billion?

(How much did Microsoft spend developing their janky infotainment system?)

But Nadella has telegraphed that Microsoft intends to narrow their focus with respect to mobile devices. And with everything moving to Win 10 continuum, there will probably be no BlackBerry purchase.

And auto? Nobody really wants an infotainment system anymore. They just want to be able to plug the iPhone or Android into a charging port and listen to their favorite tubes or podcast.

So, yeah, probably not going to happen. See, I've already talked myself out of it.

Buddha nature of objects

Yesterday, I was taking the dog for a walk, and it occurred to me that everything is alive. The rocks and trees. The sidewalk and earth. Everything. All made out of the same dreamstuff as me.

Then today I read in the Shobogenzo: "At this very moment, the
lands of the earth with their trees and grasses, as well as the walls and fences with
their tiles and stones, are all seen to be performing the work of Buddhas."

letters to Pilar

Pilar sent me an email letting me know she'd be home late, and asking if I could drive our son to Taekwondo.
i'll see if i can rally... loaded up on drugs this morning and the headache subsided, but it's really starting to pound again. this afternoon it moved to the left side, so I imagine a pleasing sort of symmetry to my brain embolisms. hopefully the dying neurons will make an interesting shape when they give me a PET scan. I'm hoping for a butterfly.

Temprano Regurgitans

Possible blog based solely on the random crap my mind spews forth upon awakening: Temprano Regurgitans. Why does the day need to be so long? I would like it better if I only had to be awake for fourteen minutes. It really only needs to be long enough to eat a bowl of cereal and go back to bed. There was more, but I forget what.

Lunch Wounds

Fffffffffffffffuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuu!!!
Before lunch:
Made a half inch gash, deep into my thumb whilst grabbing the mail out of my mailbox.  How is that even possible?  It was all junk mail, not even a bill.
After lunch:
Made a deep cut on the top of the middle knuckle  of my right index finger while putting my gym bag in my car.  Bleeding through band aid.

Tell my wife I love her.

Irony City

Clouds inside my Coke bottle.

Lately, I have been spending way too much time thinking about the clouds that form in my Coke bottle when I first open them up.  I took several pictures of this phenomenon this morning, since I had to have a Coke because of a headache.  I thought I would take a "before" picture of the unopened bottle and an "after" picture of the opened bottle showing the tiny cloud that forms just above the liquid.  This didn't quite work out as I had expected.  However, I found the shot I took looking down the neck of the opened bottle kind of captivating.  I blew it up a bit, and then pulled it into Gimp to play with hue and saturation.  I kind of like the blue.

First place I left my body

This was the location of a bad car crash I was in.  Before the impact, I remember seeing the roadway through the rear window.  There was a bluish light illuminating things I hadn't seen before.  When I came to,  I was standing outside the wreck, looking at the electrical lines snapping from the telephone pole I'd knocked down.  A policeman came and took me over to his cruiser and had me sit in the front seat while they tried to get in touch with my parents.

The House of Representatives: the reality show

I have an idea for a new reality tv show.  It's called: "The House of Representatives".
Four Republicans... four Democrats... have to share a house for the summer.  They don't have access to their bank accounts, so they have to go get jobs "in the real world".  They have to contribute to the household finances and live within their budget. They have to clean up after themselves and get along together.  What do you think?

Summer Solstice

OK you can't quite see it from this picture, but sitting in my chair under the stairs on June 21, the setting sun came through the kitchen window by the fridge and zapped me in my left eyeball.

Always make sure that you are doing whatever you decide.

Large Frames: So why Most people Pick and choose Them For Their Family homes Not to mention Businesses » Mix Article
Among the initial things that you may would like to do with regards to ordering the large frames is to always make sure that you are doing whatever you decide and can so as to make certain that you might be giving your self a lot of alternate options.

Sometimes it is fun to read one's junk email.   I suspect this is just a form of link spamming, most probably done by someone for whom English is a second language.  I am thinking about assembling these into a sort of Found Poetry Collection.

The Time Sickness

It's like deja vu, only older, somehow.
I started out thinking I was supposed to be doing something,
Or maybe meet someone,
But the time is out of joint.  Or I forgot
How every day becomes something else,
Yet there's a hum of sameness where the meanings start.
Maybe minutes don't add up to hours like they used to.

I look at everyone, and how beautiful they've become!
Nothing begins to make sense, but then
How can nothing begin?  A dog's yawn
Makes more sense than much of this world.

I lose track of time--think it's Wednesday when it's not.
Some days repeat with no explanation.
My beard turns grey, but wisdom cometh not.
Every other day or so, some thought of mine turns false.
(The mine of thought is rather dimly lit, at best.)

I learn to doubt my mind
And travel through the dark.
Curiouser and curiouser!

OM Machines

In the bulk foods section of the Winco on 82nd Drive.  You can hear the hum of the ventilation system, and it sounds like "OM"

Near the giant toilet paper display of Costco.  You can hear the sound of the refrigerators perfectly tuned to an "AUM", albeit a tad higher in pitch.

Product Review

HP wireless printers: suck. And the software that runs them? worse. I would only recommend these printers to people who have not had enough frustration recently... in which case, an HP wireless printer is an excellent value for the money.
